About Georgia
Georgia is located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe and occupies the central and western part of Transcaucasia on the eastern shore of the Black Sea.. There is a remarkable variety of landscape, ranging from the subtropical Black Sea shores to the ice and snow of the crest line of the Caucasus. Such contrasts are made more noteworthy by the country’s relatively small area.
The roots of the Georgian people extend deep in history; their cultural heritage is equally ancient and rich.
The Georgian language is a member of the Kartvelian (South Caucasian) family of languages. It has its own alphabet, consisting of 33 letters which is thought to have evolved about the 5th century.
Nature & Climate
Georgia’s location and its diverse terrain have given rise to a remarkable variety of landscapes. The luxuriant vegetation of the moist, subtropical Black Sea shores is simultaneously relatively close to the eternal snows of the mountain peaks and a Semi-desert. Deep gorges and swift rivers give way to dry steppes, and the green of alpine meadows alternates with the darker hues of forested valleys. Winters are short and mild, and high mountain regions offer a lot of sun.
An average temperature in summer ranges from 32 °C to 35 °C, and in winter – from 1.5 °C to 3 °C. Snow falls mainly in the mountainous areas in November and does not melt until the late spring.
